The ability to post bail is one of the keystones of the legal system in the United States. When accused of a crime, it can take a significant time to collect evidence before the case is brought to trial. Without bail, this would mean waiting behind a cell, losing time with family, and destroying the life you had built beyond bars. Using bail bond services allows you to get back to your life while you wait for your trial.
A bail bond allows people to post bail even when they don’t have the funds readily available. Typically bond services will charge people between 10 and 20% of the total bail cost in order to use their services.
They will also require some form of collateral, such as your home, car, or any other high-value asset in your possession.
This doesn’t mean you can skip your trial date. When yo fill out the forms for a bail bond service, you agree to return to court once the trial date is set. Failure to do so can result in severe financial repercussions, as well as the confiscation of your collateral.
